Miharu Okada, a weather girl for NHK news in Yamagata, Japan had a rough evening as she started crying uncontrollably during a broadcast. She started off fine but you can hear her voice start to break at around the 1 minute mark.
At about 1 minute 18 seconds, she’s off camera but also obviously in tears. At 1 minute 27 seconds, she’s back on camera but trying to get herself together. Then finally after getting through the segment, the shot returns to the two main news announcers. The male announcer quickly and lighly apologizes and moves on to the next story.
You have to give Ms. Okada credit for powering through.
There was a lot of speculation about to why she was crying… the inevitable net rumors that she heard a friend died and so on, but most likely is that she misidentified the city being shown at one point and got chewed out in her earpiece by a director. There may be more to the story, but at around 20 seconds in you can hear her introduce Tsuraoka City, only for Shinjo City to be shown on the screen. (She may not be able to see the screen so who knows whether it was completely her mistake…)
She later was quoted in news articles as saying that she became confused because a different city was shown than the one originally planned. When that’s happened before she was able to recover, but this time she got confused and that’s why she cried and didn’t handle it as well.
