Japanese Guy Goes to McDonald’s Drive-thru in a Tank

This is a bit of a fun video. This guy bought himself a tank, or more specifically an armored reconnaissance vehicle called a Ferret Scout Car, MK 1/2. They are apparently affordable (US$40K – $60K in the United States) armored cars and popular with collectors. It probably cost a whole lot more than that to get and own in Japan.

In the beginning of the video he takes a little trip to his local McDonald’s drive-thru for a little bite to eat. The employee even banters a little with him about the car, noting that it even passed Japan’s standard “sha-ken” car inspection.

(Unrelated aside about eating McDonald’s in Japan… as you see our tank driver do in the video, most people in Japan eat their burgers by holding onto it through the wrapper and touching it as little as possible.)

Don’t miss it around the 6 minute 50 second mark when he picks up a woman in a military costume and drives around a bit with her manning the machine gun mounted on top. (And, yes, the Japanese self-defense forces only use their right hands to salute, not their left hand like the lady in the video…) In this part of the video at least, when he’s driving through the little shopping district, it looks like he’s in downtown Kobe.

OK, that’s enough commentary, here’s the video.

The owner of the Ferret Scout Car featured is also offering the car up for rental for events or use in advertisements.
